Search Engine
Submission: Getting Your Site Listed
Search engine submission or
registration is the process of getting your web site listed with
the various search engines.
However, it doesn't mean your site will be in
the top 10 for any particular
search string. It just
means that the search engine will know your
site exists.
Search Engine
Optimization: Improving Your Position
Search engine optimization is
designing your site so that it will rank
higher in the search engines for particular
search strings. I'm not going to go too much into
detail with regard to search engine optimization. I will give you a few
tips to get better placement, but right now you just want to get your site
listed.
Prepare to
Submit Your Site
1. Write a
25 word or less description of your entire web site
and be sure to include three or four key terms that you hope to be
found under.
Good Example: Purchase cowboy hats,
baseball caps, straw hats, and other hat wear plus try our custom hat
making kit.
Bad Example: Worlds largest online
hat store with the best selection and the best prices.
2. Write down about 20 keywords that
best describe your site (make sure all the keywords are in the text on
your home page.)
Submission Service:
There are numerous companies that charge
thousands of dollars to analyze your site and submit it to the search
engines. However, you don't have to (and you shouldn't) spend a lot of money
to submit your site. I highly recommend you use a site called Addme.com to
do it. They have a fantastic system that will analyze your site and let you
know what you need to do to it in order to get properly submitted to the
various engines. They will also give you tips on getting better ranking.
Addme.com Search Engine
Submission Details:
- Submission Service: Will submit your
site to the top 1500 search engines, announcement services and classifieds
- Page Analyzer: Find
out immediately if there are problems that will keep your site from being
listed. Their spider analyzes your site for 60
common mistakes that stop sites from being listed or hurt your
ranking. These issues were derived from analysis of millions of web pages.
It's amazing.
- Link Checker: NEVER
submit a site with broken links. Search engines penalize you for this and
if you have too many broken links, you'll be dropped from the listing.
Addme.com provides unlimited access to
a broken link checker that will analyze your site
and identify broken links.
- Meta Tag Generator:
Major search engines rely on the information in your meta tags to determine
your ranking. Addme.com provides you with a meta tag
generator that will help you automatically create your meta tags.
- Confirmation Reports:
Unlike other services, every time Addme.com submits
your site, they create a customized web page for
you on the submission results. This will show you if any problems have
occurred during the submission process.
